University
of Yazd's Department of Mining Engineering is a leader in educating top
quality engineers for the Mining industry in Iran.
Department
of Mining Engineering was founded in 1991. Mining Engineering Program is
concerned with the study of exploration, mining, ore extraction and
processing. The students will be exposed to the methods of mine
exploration, mine exploitation, rock mechanics andmineralprocessing.
At present Mining Department has 13 member staff of teaching and 340
undergraduate are studying in Mining Department. Also10 graduate students
are studying for MSc in Mineral processing.Furthermore, the department is
establishing graduate program in mineral exploration for the academic year
2004-2005. So far more than 444 BSc students were graduated at this
department.
The Mining Engineering Department provides modern, attractive and
convenient lectures, laboratory and study facilities . The on-campus
laboratories include a Rock Mechanics laboratory, Mineral Processing
laboratories, Computer facilities, Geophysical & Geochemistry laboratory,
Mine surveying and Photogrammetry & Remote Sensing laboratory, laboratories
for Mineral study, General geology, Microscopic study of thin sections of
mineral and rocks, and polished sections of ores, Crystallography
laboratory. In addition, map drafting room and Mining Engineering library
is also located in this department.
Furthermore specialized preparation in areas such as computer
applications, mine evaluation, equipment selection, industrial equipment
design, heavy equipment maintenance, transportation systems, mine design
and planning, rock mechanics, explosives technology, drilling and blasting,
mineral processing mineralogy, petrology, structural geology, economic
geology, exploration geochemistry, exploration geophysics, and mine
evaluation ensures a broad exposure to technical issues and provides a high
employment potential.
