History of the Department of Mining Engineering

University of Yazd's Department of Mining Engineering is a leader in educating top quality engineers for the Mining industry in Iran. Department of Mining Engineering was founded in 1991. Mining Engineering Program is concerned with the study of exploration, mining, ore extraction and processing. The students will be exposed to the methods of mine exploration, mine exploitation, rock mechanics andmineralprocessing.
      At present Mining Department has 13 member staff of teaching and 340 undergraduate are studying in Mining Department. Also10 graduate students are studying for MSc in Mineral processing.Furthermore,the department is establishing graduate program in mineral exploration for the academic year 2004-2005. So far more than 444 BSc students were graduated at this department.
      The Mining Engineering Department provides modern, attractive and convenient lectures, laboratory and study facilities . The on-campus laboratories include a Rock Mechanics laboratory, Mineral Processing laboratories, Computer facilities, Geophysical & Geochemistry laboratory, Mine surveying and Photogrammetry & Remote Sensing laboratory, laboratories for Mineral study, General geology, Microscopic study of thin sections of mineral and rocks, and polished sections of ores, Crystallography laboratory. In addition, map drafting room and Mining Engineering library is also located in this department.  
      Furthermore specialized preparation in areas such as computer applications, mine evaluation, equipment selection, industrial equipment design, heavy equipment maintenance, transportation systems, mine design and planning, rock mechanics, explosives technology, drilling and blasting, mineral processing mineralogy, petrology, structural geology, economic geology, exploration geochemistry, exploration geophysics, and mine evaluation ensures a broad exposure to technical issues and provides a high employment potential.
