The University of Yazd was established in 1988 as a center for higher
education and has grown rapidly while preserving quality. Currently, with
298 academic staff, 6540 students and 420 working staff, the university has
made it possible to provide the community with the necessary education.

DDRI as an acronym of Desert and Dryland Research Institute was established in 1998 in Yazd
University. Desertification and aridity are among the serious problems throughout the world. Desertification
is land degradation in arid, semiarid and
dry sub-humid areas resulting from various factors, including climatic variations and
human activities.
